Taiwan’s KMT replaces candidate for leadership election

Taiwan’s ruling Kuomintang party has replaced its candidate for the island’s leadership election scheduled for next January.

At a party congress on Saturday, 812 out of 891 Kuomingtang delegates voted in favor of nullifying the nomination of Hung Hsiu-chu, as the party’s candidate for an upcoming leadership election in Taiwan.

Instead, the delegates picked party chairman Eric Chu as the new contender.
