An intense debate has taken place during South Korea’s National Assembly over the decision to deploy an advanced anti-missile system in one of its counties. The opposition Democratic Party and the government relayed polarizing views on the deployment’s potential domestic and diplomatic impact. Citing the DPRK’s missile tests, the government stressed the need for the THAAD system to safeguard the country from growing nuclear threats from across the border.
