Coal production in Southeastern Kentucky is in decline but some out-of-work coal miners are not leaving the region. Instead they’re reinventing themselves through workforce training. It’s just one of many stories that’s fast reshaping the region. Designated by President Obama as one of the first five “Promise Zones” (high-poverty areas targeted for economic revitalization) – it’s work in progress but Kentuckians remain resilient and hopeful.
