Thai investigators on Thursday failed to arrest a fugitive abbot from the influential Dhammakya temple. The abbot is accused of accepting cash stolen from a credit union. Officers were confronted by a sea of lay followers, sitting shoulder to shoulder to support 72-year-old abbot Phra Dhammachayo. He is accused of accepting embezzled funds worth 1.2 billion baht, or 33 million US dollars, from a jailed banker.
