Thousands of police suspended, TV station closed as Turkey continues coup crackdown

Turkey suspended thousands of police officers, detained dozens of members of the air force and shut down a TV station on Tuesday. Ankara’s move came hours after Deputy Prime Minister Numan Kurtulmus announced a 90-day extension to the state of emergency declared in response to July’s failed coup attempt. Thirteen-thousand police officers, five percent of the country’s police force, have been suspended over suspected links to the coup plot.
