Eleven Tibetan children with congenital heart disease have received free treatment in central China’s Hunan Province.
Aged one to 15, this is the fourth group of children patients from southwest China’s Tibet Autonomous Region to receive free treatment in Hunan.
Since 2012, 38 Tibetan children have received free surgeries in the province.
Incidence of child congenital heart disease in Tibet plateau is 10 times higher than other parts of China due to the region’s elevation.
It is estimated that more than 10,000 children suffer from the disease in the region, but the cost of treatment is often beyond their families’ means.
