Tibetan sand mandala: made in weeks, destroyed in a moment

Lamas spend weeks or even months on painstakingly laying millions of colored sand grains to create a mandala, which is a visual representation of the enlightened mind of the Buddha. But why is this sacred creation demolished once completed?
