Tillerson’s China trip paves way for Trump’s state visit

US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson wrapped up his second trip to Beijing, where he discussed the issue of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) with senior Chinese officials. During his stay, Tillerson said the US had direct talks with Pyongyang, which shows no interest in dialogues or intention to give up its nuclear program. But President Donald Trump is back on Twitter, this time, saying, diplomacy is wasted on Pyongyang.

Tillerson’s visit is likely to pave the way for President Trump’s visit to China. The DPRK crisis and bilateral trade are expected to be on the agenda during the Trump’s visit. We turn to our panel to find out: Victor Gao Zhikai, current affairs commentator and Robert Daly, director of the Kissinger Institute on China and the United States at the Wilson Center.
