Stormy scenes are expected in Parliament today, with CPI (M) member P Karunakaran and Congress MP K C Venugopal giving notices in the Lower House regarding situation arising out of incidents of intolerance and has demanded a discussion on the issue. The Opposition is expected to target the government in a big way and would particularly target five ministers who had made controversial statements recently. Minister of state General (retd) VK Singh is expected to come under heavy shelling for his controversial remarks on the killing of a couple of Dalit children in Haryana. Although the Opposition has agreed for a debate under the general rule in the Lok Sabha, in the Rajya Sabha, where the government is in a minority, the Opposition parties are planning to press for a House resolution against “intolerance”.
