Tony Blair: Iraq war contributed to IS rise

Former British prime minister Tony Blair has said the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq was partly responsible for the emergence of the Islamic State militant group in the Middle East. But he insisted that toppling Saddam Hussein had been the right thing to do.
Britain decided to join then U.S. president George W Bush’s invasion of Iraq in 2003. It since remains a divisive issue after the British government was accused of overstating the threat posed by Hussein’s supposed weapons of mass destruction, which were never found.
