Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair has said going to war in Iraq was the most “agonizing decision” he has ever made, and claimed that the sorrow, regret and apology he feels is beyond imagination. He made the remarks after the publication of the Chilcot Report, an inquiry into the UK’s role in the 2003 Iraq War. However, the former PM insisted that leaving Saddam Hussein in power was not an option, adding that a world without Saddam is “a better place.” Blair conceded that the aftermath of the war was bloodier than expected and admitted that the then government didn’t foresee the level of sectarian violence that followed.
