Tourists visit NW China to experience extreme heat

Visitors have continued to flock to the Turpan Basin, northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, despite sweltering temperatures of 40 degrees and more. The area is known for its extreme hot weather. Groups of tourists have chosen to bake themselves with “sand therapy” in the desert. They bury themselves inside the 60-degree-Celsius sand with an open umbrella overhead.
