Since President Donald Trump imposed tariffs on some US$250 billion of Chinese goods, the United States and China have been engaged in a trade war.
Indonesia’s former Trade Minister, Mari Pangestu says Trump’s unilateral way of dealing with China is “bullying”.
She points out to Conversation With’s Lin Xueling that past presidents, from George Bush to Barack Obama, have used the World Trade Organization’s dispute settlement processes to settle economic disputes.
“Imagine if that was us, Indonesia, a small country, dealing with the US,” the professor at the University of Indonesia adds, about how it would find itself at an unfair disadvantage.
