Turkey downs Russia jet: Moscow says “we aimed against ISIS”

Turkish military sources on Tuesday that a plane crashed in Turkmen mountains in southern Turkey was a Su-24 plane and it was shot down by a Turkish F-16 fighter jet.

Russia’s defense ministry confirmed the crash, and its helicopters are searching for the missing pilots.

Turkish media reported that one of the pilots was captured by Turkmen groups in northern Syria.

Russia however insists that the air campaign was aimed against Islamic State jihadists.
