Turkey removes militants from swathe of Syria

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan says incursions in northern Syria are going well, as a 400-square kilometer area has been cleared of Islamic State and Kurdish YPG militia forces. Erdogan made the announcement in a news conference in the Turkish capital of Ankara. The government has been criticized by Washington, which supports the YPG. Erdogan sees ISIL and the Kurdish YPG as threats.
