Turkey has sunk an Airbus jet at a resort on the Aegean Sea, hoping to boost the diving tourism in the area. The giant A300 plane was sent to the bottom of the sea on Saturday afternoon. It’s now supposed to act like a reef, becoming a magnet for underwater flora and fauna. The 36-year-old aircraft was bought by the Aydin municipality from a private aviation firm for 93,000 US dollars. With Turkey’s tourism revenue expected to drop by 15 billion dollars this year, authorities are hoping this new speculation will draw more attention to the region.
