China’s weather authority has downgraded the alert for typhoon Chan-Hom, which continues to weaken as it moves toward the northeast. The typhoon is expected to lessen to a tropical storm before tracking into the Korean Peninsula.
Rainstorms are expected to occur in Shandong, Liaoning, Jilin and Heilongjiang. Authorities in Zhejiang, where Chan-Hom first landed, say the typhoon may be the strongest in decades.
