Typhoon makes landfall in NE Japan

Typhoon Lionrock, the tenth storm of its kind this year, made landfall in northeast Japan on Tuesday evening. Japan’s national weather service said it became a severe tropical storm as it swept through the region. Around 410,000 people across the Aomori, Iwate and Miyagi prefectures were issued evacuation advisories. The typhoon lashed regions already devastated by the 2011 earthquake-triggered tsunami, and also caused major disruptions to local transportation networks.
