Typhoon Meranti destroys 800-year-old covered bridge in SE China

Typhoon Meranti destroys an 871-year-old covered bridge in Quanzhou, SE China’s Fujian Province.

The Dongguan bridge, also called Immortals Bridge, is a cantilevered wooden beam bridge built in 1145, with a complex set of shrines inside.

It’s 85 meters long and 5 meters wide and is set upon four 15-meter high piers.
