U.S.: jets intercepted Russian planes near Carrier Reagan

The White House confirmed Thursday that U.S. fighter jets had intercepted Russian planes flying near a U.S. aircraft carrier earlier this week.
A White House spokesman said the encounter took place in the Sea of Japan when a military exercise with South Korea was being conducted there.
Four F/A-18 fighter jets from the USS Ronald Reagan aircraft carrier escorted two TU-142 “Bear” anti-submarine planes until they had departed the area.
