“Ugly monkey” lantern illuminated at Taipei Lantern Fair
Chinese Lantern Festival this year falls on Monday.
In Taipei, a lantern fair has opened to the public days before the festival.
Monkey-themed lanterns are almost everywhere of the fair as the year of 2016 is the Year of Monkey in line with Chinese Zodiac.
Among them, the gourd-shaped, some 14 meter-tall lantern with a monkey face is the highlight of this year’s lantern fair.
Dubbed as the ugliest monkey in history by netizens, the design has drawn wide public sarcasm since it was unveiled to the public.
