The UK on Thursday approved the controversial new nuclear project at Hinkley Point, which is being jointly financed by Electricite de France (EDF) and China General Nuclear (CGN). New Prime Minister Theresa May had put the 18.1 billion British pound (24 billion US dollar) scheme on hold in July, saying she needed to assess the project. But in a statement on Thursday, her government promised to introduce a series of measures to enhance security and ensure stakes in the Hinkley project cannot change hands without the government’s agreement.
