Ukraine marks second anniversary of pro-European mass protests

Thousands of people came to Independent Square in central Kiev on February 20 to pay respect to those who died in the Maidan uprising that toppled former President Viktor Yanukovich’s regime two years ago. In February 2014, more than 100 protesters were killed in Maidan uprising. The victims are now known as “the Heavenly Hundred.” Last year, Ukraine’s incumbent president Petro Poroshenko signed a decree to award “Hero of Ukraine” title to those who were killed.
