UN body urges Japan to take responsibility

On the eve of International Women’s Day, the UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women urged Japan to change its attitude on its army’s use of wartime sex slaves, an issue which has caused tensions with its neighbors. The committee said the “comfort women” matter remains unsettled, contrary to Japan’s claims. It also stressed the need to objectively include the history in school textbooks.
