With the WHO issuing a global health emergency over the Zika virus, questions abound over the nature of the threat. Having already spread to 23 Latin American countries, the epidemic may pose a particular danger to pregnant women. However, there’s been major disagreement over the best way to deal with the problem. George Gao from the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the WHO’s Bernhard Schwartlander, and Georgetown University’s Alexandra Phelan help us understand the nature of the threat, and what needs to be done to protect public health.
