UNESCO delegates told Syrian cultural officials on Monday that experts from Paris and Beirut are ready to go to the city of Palmyra for damage evaluation and repair planning. The meeting, held in Damascus, involved discussions on restoration of the ancient city which had suffered heavy damage when the Islamic State seized it. In 1980, Palmyra was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
