Up to 300,000 Syrian refugees living in Turkey could be granted Turkish citizenship, in a plan to keep skilled and educated Syrians in the country. The usual obligation of living in Turkey for at least five years before gaining citizenship could be waived for Syrians. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said earlier in July that Syrian refugees would be offered nationality “if they want it”.
