US averages over one mass shooting per day

While mass shootings grab the headlines in the US, they kill a few hundred people a year. Total gun deaths in the US are far higher. In 2013, some 11,000 people were murdered in gun crimes, while some 21,000 committed suicide using guns. As the United States grapples with the latest mass shooting in California, it brings up old questions about the gun culture and the prevalence of gun violence.
