US charges NY bomb suspect with use of weapons of mass destruction

Ahmad Kahn Rahami, the suspect in Saturday’s bombings in New York and New Jersey, has been charged with four crimes, including the use of weapons of mass destruction and the bombing of a public place. US federal prosecutors said a handwritten journal was found on Rahami, where he accused the US government of slaughtering Islamist fighters in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, and Palestine. The federal charges come after Rahami’s father said he had reported concerns about his son being involved with militants to the FBI two years ago. The FBI acknowledged its investigations on Rahami in 2014, but dropped its inquiry as it found no “ties to terrorism.”
