US Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen says she believes the case for an increase in the federal funds rate has strengthened in recent months. Yellen made the remarks in a speech at a global gathering of central bankers in the US mountain resort of Jackson Hole, Wyoming. She did not indicate when the Federal Reserve would raise rates, but said that the US central bank will have to keep its monetary policy flexible to respond to potential shifts in the economic landscape.
