US forces in Okinawa have launched a damage-limitation exercise after a US employee allegedly murdered a local woman. They’ve started what they’re calling a 30-day “period of mourning,” which began on Friday and involves a night-time curfew and a ban on personnel drinking alcohol outside the base. Public anger erupted over US military presence after a base employee was arrested on suspicion of killing a 20-year-old woman.
