US Hurricane Hermine makes landfall in NW Florida

Hurricane Hermine has made landfall in northwest Florida in the United States early on Friday, causing damage and leaving tens of thousands of households without power along Florida’s Gulf Coast, before it weakened into a tropical storm a few hours later. According to the National Hurricane Center, it is the first hurricane to directly strike the Sunshine State in 11 years. The powerful rip currents, high seas and flooding continued to be a threat, despite the hurricane weakening. Authorities have warned that its effect could not be limited to Florida.
