US increases its military presence in Asia-Pacific

The US has been increasing its military deployments in the Asia-Pacific region since it shifted its strategic focus to the region several years ago. The US has deployed 368,000 military personnel in the Asia-Pacific. It now has 8 major military base complexes in the region, about 40 percent of its overseas total. The biggest is the northeast Asia complex, which includes 109 bases and over 37,000 personnel in Japan, and 83 military bases and over 28,000 personnel in South Korea.
