US magnate tackles Chinese education reform

Stephen Schwarzman, Chairman and CEO of the Blackstone Group, has launched a scholarship program that will enable 200 scholars from all over the world to enroll for a master’s degree at Tsinghua University in Beijing. The “Schwarzman Scholars” program, which has been praised by both US President Barack Obama and Chinese President Xi Jinping, is the largest single philanthropic initiative undertaken in China by largely international donors. We sat down for a chat with Mr. Schwarzman, to discuss education reform in China and his thoughts on how the program might benefit the brilliant young men and women who will be the first Schwarzman scholars when the program launches this summer.
