United States officials have announced that 15 inmates from the Guantanamo prison in Cuba were transferred to the United Arab Emirates. The transferred detainees include 12 Yemeni and three Afghan citizens. The move brings the total number of prisoners in Guantanamo down to 61, mostly held without charge or trial for more than a decade. This is the single largest transfer of Guantanamo detainees during the Obama administration following the president’s plan to shut down the facility and transfer the prisoners to other countries.
