From Tuesday night, mobile users found that their WeChat Moments was laden with blurry photos of all kinds of things, but to see a more vivid version, you had to send Hongbao, or a digital red envelope of money, to the picture’s owners. Within two hours of coming online, the recreation had gained real traction around China, and if you could suitably allure your friends, you were in for quite a pay-day. WeChat also announced that they’ll be rolling out more Hongbao-related goodies on New Year’s Eve.
