Uttarakhand CM Harish Rawat Summoned by CBI in Sting Tape Operation

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has summoned Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat for questioning on Tuesday (May 24) in connection with a sting operation that shows him allegedly offering bribes for support before a crucial floor test. The Centre on May 11 revoked President’s rule in Uttarakhand after Congress chief minister Rawat proved his majority in a floor test held May 10. On March 26, nine rebel Congress leaders released the sting video and alleged that Rawat tried to buy their support for the floor test by offering them money. The Centre imposed President’s Rule in Uttarakhand on March 27 saying Rawat lost his majority when the same nine Congress legislators rebelled. Uttarakhand plunged into a political crisis when the nine Congress lawmakers went against their own government in a debate on an Appropriation Bill earlier in March during the Budget Session of the Assembly.
