“You have to feel like being part of a larger team. Beyond the disciplines, there is a larger team, whose name is Venezuela. You have to feel this tri-color (flag), and learn to love it and defend it. Yellow, blue and red, there are beautiful colors.”

The Venezuelan delegation consisted of 77 athletes, among them Ruben Limardo, fencing medalist at the London Olympic Games in 2012.

“I am very happy because I know the time has come – to represent Venezuela with great commitment. I carry the flag to look for the second gold medal. It will not be easy, but it is what I like. There (at the Olympic Games) we will do it great.”

Venezuela sent 69 competitors to the London Games, and earlier in 2008 over 100 to the Beijing Games, the largest ever so far in its history.
