Venezuelan authorities say they have seized nearly four tons of cocaine and broken a drug trafficking ring linked to the Mexican Los Zetas drug cartel this month. The operation began on May 14, when a truck transporting cocaine was stopped near Venezuela’s border with Colombia. That incident led to the discovery of tons of cocaine, which the group was preparing to export. Security analysts say Venezuela has become a major source of cocaine sold to Europe and the United States.
