Venezuela takes unconventional steps to end economic slump

Venezuela is in its deepest recession in decades due to low oil prices. To deal with food shortages and other economic problems, President Nicolás Maduro’s government has enacted a series of reforms. The country’s economic state of emergency was extended to 60 days on May 15, and the government has also employed a number of unconventional measures to ensure the supply and transportation of necessities.
