Vice Chancellor Denies Minster’s Influence Over Suspension

Even as questions are being raised that the Vice- Chancellor of University of Hyderabad was pressurised by the government to act against the five Dalit students, the university has defended its stand with Vice- Chancellor Appa Rao Podile maintaining that his decision was not influenced by any minister. “I urge upon the people, media and all the more the fraternity of University of Hyderabad to note that university, as it has been before, has only followed the standard statuary procedure and did not violate any of them, the VC said in a video note. He also categorically stated that there was no interference from either from Minister of HRD or Union minister Bandaru Dattatrey in connection with the case of suspension of the five Dalit students. He also appealed for the students to maintain calm even as the students intensified their protests seeking ‘justice’ for the Dalit scholar Rohith Vemalu, who committed suicide on January 17, following his suspension last year.
