Volkswagen could face fines of $18 billion amid emission scandal

German auto giant Volkswagen’s (VW) shares plummeted nearly 20 percent on Monday as investigations continue into possible violations of U.S. emission rules.

Volkswagen has reportedly halted all diesel vehicle sales in the United States as the probe into the scandal continues.

If found guilty, the auto giant could pay fines of more than 18 billion U.S. dollars.
