Dick Pound, the founding president of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), has said that a complete ban on the entire Russia team from the Rio Olympic Games is “not impossible”. Russia has been ruled out of all athletics events in Rio since the International Association of Athletics Federations upheld a ban imposed for state-sponsored doping and mass corruption. However, Russian athletes training outside the country can apply to compete as neutrals at the event in Brazil in August, if they can “convincingly show they are not tainted by the Russian system”.
