Wartime sex slaves: Japan’s right-wing asks to review Kono apology

In 1993, a landmark statement by then Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Yohei Kono offered an apology to the former comfort women. Meanwhile, the country’s right-wing have frequently since asked to review this statement. The Japanese government had earlier released a report in July 1992, admitting it had built military “comfort stations” during the Second World War. It said that these comfort women were mainly from the Korean Peninsula, China, the Philippines, Indonesia and the Netherlands.
