FTII director Prashant Pathrabe today said that he was forcefully confined and tortured by the students. Addressing a press conference in Pune, he said, “I was kept in an illegal confinement for about 8-10 hours by students on Monday night. About six students were asked to come for the meeting, but instead about 50 students turned up for the discussion.” “When I told them my decision they told me they would not allow me to go. I was verbally abused, tortured by them,” he added. “They broke the computers, chairs in my office. I had no choice but to register FIR with the police. I am still in a state of mental shock,” Pathrabe said. Yesterday night, police entered the FTII campus with a list of names of 15 students and took five of them into custody on charges of rioting and unlawful assembly, among others. The police action came following FIR lodged by Prashant Pathrabe, who was gheraoed by the students for around six hours on Monday for his resolve to go ahead with the assessment of diploma films made by the 2008 batch students despite opposition from both students and faculty members.
