The subway system in the US capital will reopen after a day-long shutdown for emergency safety checks. The shutdown was to allow safety crews to inspect 600 underground cables that could pose a fire risk. The Transit Authority said nearly 100 stations may remain closed if repairs were not finished by the scheduled reopening.
