White House presses Congress to review gun control in wake of Virginia shooting

White House Press Secretary, Josh Earnest, urged Congress to use “common sense” in order to reduce gun violence in America in Washington D.C. on Thursday. His statement follows the shooting of reporter Alison Parker and cameraman Adam Ward, who were shot and killed by former colleague Vester Lee Flanagan whilst they were carrying out a live televised interview in Virginia on Wednesday. Flanagan later killed himself following a brief police pursuit. Earnest added that US President Barack Obama supports gun reform, which would “not infringe on the constitutional rights of law abiding Americans.”
