China on Monday announced major military reforms, reorganizing the structure of its military headquarters into 15 new agencies under the direct authority of the Central Military Commission (CMC). Chinese Defense Ministry spokesman Wu Qian said that the changes unify the leadership of the CMC and ensure the Communist Party of China’s (CPC) absolute leadership over the armed forces. “It will help the CMC to implement strategy and management, as well as restrain and supervise power,” he said.
