A slave-built symbol of oppression and torture has now been transformed into a beacon of healing and nation-building, according to the South African government. The Castle of Good Hope once served colonial powers on the so-called Spice Route, but a very different role is now envisaged on the occasion of the building’s 350th anniversary.
