An international conference in Brussels aiming to raise billions of US dollars for Afghanistan entered its second day on Wednesday. Officials are seeking to raise a total pledge of three billion US dollars a year for the period 2017 to 2020, which is lower than the four billion US dollars a year pledged at the last conference in Tokyo in 2012. This is partly because Afghanistan is raising its own revenue, and also due to what has been called “donor fatigue”.
